开始 is a required scholarly concentration program of 十大菠菜台子威廉博蒙特医学院 that provides a mentored introduction to research and scholarship. 第一年

The first year entails course work that encompasses sessions on research study and design. 这些主题包括一个研究问题的发展, 构建研究计划, and the important aspects of research regulatory bodies (internal review board (IRB)).

Also during this first year, students choose mentors with similar research interests. 导师包括来自基础医学研究系的OUWB教授, various clinical departments in 博蒙特健康 and faculty from Oakland University Departments. 导师和学生合作设计一个可行的, 基于结果的研究项目. The mentor guides the student in their project throughout the four-years of medical school.

第二年

三年级和四年级

Completion of the capstone research project is a graduation requirement for each student with presentation of his or her work at a research colloquium in the M4 year.

在OUWB, we believe in recognizing our medical students for efforts in conducting best practices in research. Partial fourth-year scholarships are awarded for outstanding 开始 achievement through a mini-manuscript competition. 开始 encourages students to present their findings and provides supplemental travel funds when appropriate for students to present their completed work at regional and national meetings under the guidance of their mentors. 撰写摘要,并提交给当地, 国内和国际会议, 此外,还鼓励提交手稿,但不是必需的.

Generous donors of OUWB support students by funding scholarships that are awarded through the school’s 开始 program. Third year medical students have the option of preparing a mini-manuscript reporting their 开始 program capstone project outcomes. 这些手稿由教员小组评判, and the students who prepared the top manuscripts are awarded partial scholarships to be used in their fourth year at OUWB.
